Boardroom INSIDER for… OCTOBER
“FANTASY LEAGUE” BOARDROOMS?
Fantasy sports are a global trend, with fans drafting and managing their ideal teams (on paper), and competing in big-money leagues. Obsessive stats collection and analysis, and lots of computing power, fuel this $20 billionUS$ industry.
But the real big league of fantasy teams could be found playing a very unexpected field – the corporate boardroom. In the October issue of online governance monthly Boardroom INSIDER, publisher and business speaker Ralph Ward points to growing amounts of data on board members, their skills and stats, being compiled by activist advisors such as Matt Moscardi of Free Float Analytics. With ever-deeper data on individual board members, their background, networks and results at their companies, activists “can not only target weak spots on current boards, but suggest new nominees who fill these gaps.”
But Ward suggests an out-there next step. Using deep data on global board members and AI tools, activists could “assemble a dream team, fantasy board lineup for a company, and crunch the data to predict business results.” Why not fantasy board league competitions? Directors shouldn’t be surprised to one day “find themselves in a fantasy boardroom lineup.”
